Mild conditions are expected overnight, but a cold front will move through the area on Wednesday. Temperatures will fall sharply behind the front during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be reached in the morning across northwestern areas, with mild conditions expected across southern areas ahead of the front. Snow (possibly mixed with rain at first) will spread across the area behind the front. This could create a flash freeze when temperatures fall rapidly and wet roads become icy. Snowfall of 1-3 inches is possible, and when combined with north winds of 20 to 30 mph this may lead to some blowing and drifting snow across the South Dakota plains Wednesday night.
