SHAME ON #AUSTRALIA & #GAZA !! This Australian animal was born in Broome. But a few days ago we found him in Gaza. We never wanted to show you this, but when you read his story, you’ll understand why this needs to be made public.

He was there because he had been sold by his owner into the live export trade. Last year he was loaded onto a ship owned by LSS — the biggest live export company in Australia. After weeks on the water, he disembarked in Israel. But that’s not where his journey ended. He was then trucked into Gaza. That’s where he ‘fell out’ of the live export ‘assurance’ system, and was on-sold to the Jabaliya slaughterhouse.

It was the third time our investigator had witnessed Australian cattle at Jabaliya — despite the fact that Australian animals are never meant to be there. This would also be the third time we alerted the Australian Department of Agriculture, and Australia’s biggest live exporter, that exported cattle were still being abused at this facility. And it would the seventh time in the last six months we would file a legal complaint detailing ongoing live export cruelty in Gaza.

It was abundantly clear that reporting cruelty to the authorities wasn’t enough to stop it continuing. That’s why we need you to help make this public.

There at the Jabaliya slaughterhouse, Australian cattle have one thing in common with the workers whose job it is to kill them: they are each afraid of the other.

Australian cattle are larger and less tame than local cattle in Gaza. In such a volatile situation, fear breeds violence. Being stabbed in the eye was just the beginning. This brutal method of ‘restraint’ was an effort to control him while his neck was slashed the first time. With every cut he thrashed against the neck rope, until he collapsed from blood loss. Then, he was killed.

This is not the first time we have seen animals in the live export trade being stabbed in their eyes, or being brutally killed. But we are doing everything in our power to make it the last.
