Beers Elementary School students listen to a presentation from an African-American helicopter pilot during the first week of June as part of a careers demonstration during the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Night.

The event opened with an assembly in the school’s gymnasium, which was packed with parents, students, and community partners such as NASA, Children’s Museum, and Children’s Hospital. Beers’ students explained and demonstrated what STEM meant at the school, and community partners has set up tables on both sides of the auditorium to describe what they do with Beers as well as some activities to engage the parents.
