Acting DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson and Mayor Vincent C. Gray talk about Teacher Appreciation Week and the role and value of outstanding teachers Wednesday at the mayor's weekly press briefing. Henderson and Gray encouraged residents to wear blue ribbons to show their support for teachers every day as part of the DC Public Education Fund's Blue Ribbons for DC Teachers campaign that was launched this week.

Thursday, April 28th was local food day for the 7 Northeast schools DC Central Kitchen services. Aiton ES, Burrville ES, Kelly Miller MS, Kenilworth ES, Marshall ES, Prospect LC, and Thomas ES enjoyed tacos made with locally raised beef along farm fresh tomatoes and lettuce with strawberries for dessert.

Bryan Vasquez was selected as school representative from Powell to appear at a Nationals game fully uniformed. Along with other 9 players from different little league teams in the city, Bryan took the National Park field before the professional players, and the National players then took the field and substituted each one of the little league players. Way to go Bryan!

Pic of the Day: Third graders from Bruce-Monroe Elementary School launch into the air Jan. 26 during a dance performance of The Jackson Five song "ABC" at the Department of Education auditorium. The performance was part of an arts program showcase and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first D.C. Public Schools Student Art Exhibit at the Department of Education headquarters. Student art from 10 #DC Public Schools adorn the hallways outside the DoE auditorium and students from four #DC Public Schools performed in the showcase.
